We are currently looking at switching to something else for our flu and strep testing in the clinics and flu, RSV and strep testing in the offices. We are looking at instrumentation for testing. I would love to have your feedback on the following instrumentation:

Alere I

Solana

Cobas Liat

Thank you!

The BD Veritor Plus is another option you should consider!

Alere I - I have heard many insurance companies are not paying as much as customers are being told.  It requires that some parts of it be refrigerated, takes ~15 mins to run and the instrument is locked down at that time, so depending on volumes, may not be a great fit.

Liat - PCR platform, very good.  Takes ~ 25 minutes to run, instrument is expensive, not sure about cost per test.  I'm not sure if all 3 assays are available yet.

I was looking at the Sophia.  Still a manual method for performing  the incubation, but the device reads.  It is basically a reader, but for me it can connect to Telcor.

Be sure you look at the methodology as well as the CDC Influenza reclassification information.  Also advise evaluating use of testing algorithms depending on risk of patient, patient location and IP/OP.

Influenza testing is way more complex that it used to be.  I will be interested to see what type of feedback and advise you get.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I appreciate it!
