Anyone have or are familiar with Quantra Hemostasis point of care analyzer. Pros or cons?

I have two of them in my laboratory that we are working on going live with.  One will live in OR and one will live in lab.  The analyzer is super simple for the user.  Interpretation is more involved but we haven't discovered any cons yet.

Yes I have 8 analyzers in my facility. It is a great analyzer.

We have 5 Quantras using the QPlus cartridge in our Cardiovascular ORs ran by Anesthesiologist and managed by POC. The analyzers are very easy to use and maintain.  The testing time is typically under 15 minutes and the dials are easy to interpret once you get used to it. We have developed an internal algorithm to use for blood product management. We have seen a decrease in product waste and cost since implementing.   The company is great to work with, very responsive and supportive. The shortcoming is that it is only FDA approved for venous whole blood samples (amendment: recently approved for arterial for Qplus as of 2023)  from perioperative patients 18 yrs or older undergoing cardiovascular or major orthopedic surgeries. The QStat cartridge has a different approved population.   Use of Rals to manage the device is limited however, Hemosonics has actively made strides in improving this.  Weekly maintenance cartridges are required at a cost of $10 per cartridge/device.

Hi Jenna,
How many people do you have trained and how did you get Anesthesiologist to agree to complete annual competencies, LOL? Is there a reason why you chose weekly maintenance vs. monthly? Also, I'd be interested to learn more about your internal algorithm for blood product management.

Hello, we currently have 81 Anesthesiologist (Attendings, residents, and fellows) trained. Fortunately, we have a lot of collaboration and support from the Anesthesiology Director. We had Signature Elite and Gem 5000s in the OR prior to the Quantras and all the devices were installed at the request of Anesthesiology making it a relatively smooth transition to add the Quantras to the competency rotations.  Weekly maintenance is required by the manufacturer.
