I am looking for the pros and cons of using the test select function on the iSTAT-1 analyzer.

Pro:  Results are only generated for tests that have a physician order.

Con:  If the operator forgets to select a test, no result exists.

The test is done regardless of selection.  If the Operator forgets to select a parameter, all they need to do is press the Page key until it comes back to the Test Select screen.  Once there they can select whatever was ordered and the results will be viewable.

The same holds true if a particular group of parameters was originally selected, and once the results become available, the Provider decides to add something else.  If they go back to the Test Select page, they can change whatever they want.

Just make sure this is done before you exit that test.
