Does anyone allow staff with HS Diplomas to perform non-waived POC testing or do you only allow staff with 2 yr. degrees or above to perform non-waived testing?

Non-waived testing is HS diploma or above with proper training and competency assessment. We definitely do not restrict to people with a degree, many RT's and EMT's that use iSTAT here.

Sorry, I meant to say Moderate Complexity, not "Non-waived", as non-waived can also mean High complexity, and that definitely requires a degree in a life science.

Thanks Silka, we only have moderate for non-waived too.

I also allow staff with only a HS diploma to perform moderate complexity testing, however I do try to limit how many of them there are, for example our phlebotomist's run the iSTAT's but only on the Chem8 and Crea cartridges which are waived if run correctly.

Any competency assessors we require to have a two year degree and have all diplomas and degrees on file with HR.

The minimum educational attainment to do non-waived  ( moderate complexity tests)

is a high school diploma or GED unless your State licensing agency require more.
