Hi,
Has anyone used the new waived sysmex XW-100? What are your thoughts on it?

Jake, We has considered it for our walk-in clinics, but this analyzer has several issues with it that dissuaded is from purchase-it doesn’t have the ability to connect to a LIS, it’s not recommended for pediatric patients, and it doesn’t give a true differential.

Agree with Erin's reasons for not purchasing when it was on the market before being removed from the market (so I'd have to look at what may have been modified if it's been released again).
Sysmex had to comply with a lot of restrictions from the FDA to get it approved as waived. If you buy it you will need a hemoglobin backup (Hemocue) for <10 hemoglobins. The instrument also suppresses hemoglobin, HCT and MCV if MCHC is <32 or > 35.
Having said that, it is a great little instrument if you want to avoid the non-waived world of regulations. For places that are low volume and without lab personnel, I think it’s a pretty good choice.
We are just beginning to use ours so will have a better idea of the pros and cons after using it for a while.
