Blood Gas/Chemistry orders

Aloha all,

How is everyones workflow designed for POCT blood gas/chemistry ordering?

Does your site order a la carte/per analyte?

Do any of you have orders that are built per cartridge?  For example, for the i-stat the clinician would order per cartridge, CG8, CG4, EG7, etc not per analyte?  Or if you have a larger blood gas/chemistry analyzer, they would be compelled to run everything and not  a la carte?

We have it set-up by panel, not individual test request. It made it easier to build the interface, plus the physicians always ordered by panels, not individual tests.

We have a combo. Our docs can order something like CG8 PRN. They can also order blood gas/glucose if they want or a single ionized calcium. If  test(s) are performed in error (the operator selected All), a correction form is to be sent to the lab so that the patient's account can be credited. I am also currently showing my educators/operators how to correct what was ordered in the ISTAT while the test is still running, avoiding the need to credit.
