Point of Care in Mobile Transport

Does anyone have experience or know the guidelines for POCT in either an ambulance or helicopter when transporting patients from site to site?  Thinking of a mobile ECMO or NICU team?

We have both patient transport with ground ambulance, moderate testing, and air ambulance with moderate testing. It was quite an incredible journey for me to begin the lab with the air ambulance from start through accreditation. I would be happy to discuss with you.

We have iSTATs and glucose meters in our ground transport and air. The transport team is based out of our Minneapolis hospital so they operate under the lab CLIA #.

Karen,

There are military hospitals that have mobile ECMO that I have worked with in San Antonio. These are REALLY mobile....in one case they flew to Japan to get a service members' baby and returned to San Antonio.

The only thing that you might want to check is if the device that you pick  for testing is certified for high altitude. The ISTAT has been in the Space Shuttle.  At the time I was working with them, (early 2000's) the Hemochron did not have that certification.

We have mobile units and they run an ISTAT and a glucose meter. In a meeting at corporate, I heard that a manufacturer was working on a waived TEG like instrument for use in trauma in the field to ensure the correct blood product is administered.

Any suggestions regarding humidity and iStats? Our mobile transport teams experience a higher number of humidity errors in the summer months. We're brainstorming ways to reduce these errors.
