Pediatric GFRs

Hello!
I'm wondering if anyone else has had questions about calculating GFRs on pediatric patients? We had a 14 year old male diabetic patient who needed a procedure with contrast dye. The GFR calculator we use specifically states that it is for adult patients 18 and older. I did a search and found a pediatric GFR calculator on the National Kidney Foundation website. Does anybody use this? Also, one way it differs from the commonly used adult calculator is that it does not calculate differently for African American patients. I found other pediatric calculators on other sites that were the same. Why is it relevant with adults and not pediatric patients? How do you handle pediatric patients who need contrast dye?

Yes we used to use the kidney.org website for calculating GFR in <18 years. I recall that <2 years only the creatinine level was used. We now use an eGFR within EPIC so the website no longer needed unless during EPIC downtimes.
