Abbott ID Now (Alere i)- melting test base holder

Hi POC Pals,

So far we only use WT molecular testing in one island Pedi Primary/Urgent Care clinic. I have no experience with other WT molecular testing instruments and am clueless if our current experience with 'a melting test base holder' is very unusual (or not).

I've been advised a 2nd one melted although this is over a 2 year period of using the instruments. The first time the Abbott Tech Specialist said it was incorrect cleaning and the liquid used to clean pooled and caused the issue. The testing site denied and continue to deny they are not following the instructions. They are using the allowable alcohol wipes and say there is no pooling. They also say they let the instrument open over night to air dry.

The instrument is not used from about 10 pm to about 730 am the following day. Should the instruments get turned off, unplugged? I'm not finding info stating that should happen so I hesitate to advise staff to start doing that.

Anyone experienced with this problem?

Many thanks in advance. Peggy
