Alayna,

Why are you switching cartridge to loose analyte?

Are yiu trying to save money?

Why dont you just turn off the iCa?

I am trying to save money. The EG6 cartridge doesn't cost that much more than the G3 and it costs a dollar less than the EG7 cartridge that we only use in the CCU and Cathlab. I asked the doctors if this would impact them and they didn't seem to mind loosing the EG7 and switching cartridges, as long as we kept the Na, K, HCT, and Hgb. This way the EG6 cartridge will be used in place of the G3 hospital wide. RALS will allow us to choose which analytes we prefer to use on specific floors too.

Though all this is a work in progress still!

I am currently in the same boat because we use the chem8+ and G3+ .  We have discontinued use of the Chem 8 cartridge but we are still using the G3 cartridge until they quit making it.  I want to transition to the CG8+ cartridge we are currently joint commission lab accredited.  We are having trouble getting through to them so I am not sure what I need to do to put these new cartridges in use.  Abbott has been absolutely no help and I am very frustrated with the way the whole thing was handled.  The rep tells me on the phone that he can't tell me anything other than find an alternate method of testing!

Call Abbot and ask them to send you the "ISTAT System Performance Verification Protocol" or send me your email and I will send it to you.

Elham,

At my institution we have always followed your way of thinking…the cartridge is the test method, the handheld is just a reader.  We verify the performance of each new handheld by testing all analytes using 3 levels of Cal Ver.  Studies
of accuracy, precision, etc. were done on each cartridge type.

The cartridge is what counts where testing happens.  The instrument is just a reader.

Just to get an idea.... Who pulled the iStats from use the same day the memo came out?  Where are you located?

We pulled the effected cartridges the same day at our 3 Oncology Clinics. Substituted the creatinine cartridge at our largest volume one. What a mess!

All Veteran's Administration facilities pulled the same day...It was mandated by the big wigs.  Can't wait for them the to get FDA approved.

Pulled the day after. Cut back to just using CG8 in a limited capacity. We are getting ABL90s to put in our highest volume locations.
