POCT vs Lab comparison

Hi all! My sister hospital Respiratory Therapists uses i-STAT to test for blood gases, but the main lab doesn’t perform blood gases at all. The Larger hospital of our network uses ABL as well as i-STATs and I do run comparisons studies with no problem.
How can I justify not doing POCT vs Lab comparison in the smaller hospital? Or how could I perform any kind of comparison?
Thank you in advance for any advice!!
Maria

First, are you accredited by CAP? If respiratory is using i-STAT only for blood gases, and your lab doesn't have a device also performing blood gases, then there is no POCT/Lab comparison possible. CAP regulations only require comparisons if you have devices doing the same test in POCT and lab. You'll just need to do your every 6 months cal ver/AMR validation.
If the i-STATs do anything besides blood gas (like lactate or lytes) that are also performed in the lab, then you will have to do POCT/Lab comparisons of just those tests.
Hope this helps!

Yes! We are CAP and we do Cal/ver every 6 months!
Thanks a lot!
