iSTAT QC tracking

Hoping someone might be able to help with a QC question.

Background: Our iSTATs are linked in to our LIS (Orchard for the moment) and EMR (Epic), but I don't have a POC program like RALS or Telcor. When our users order a patient test (in Epic) a label will autogenerate, they run the sample, and when they dock the iSTAT again it will autohost/release to Orchard and then Epic. Our QC does not work this way. When they run QC they manually write down results in a log and I check monthly. Our users do not have access to Orchard (to potentially order QC) and Orchard isn't set up right now to track QC (although I imagine it could be...) Also, we just changed to a new Epic instance and we are getting a new LIS next year and our only lab IT/LIS person's last day is tomorrow, so current QC methods won't be changing anytime soon unfortunately. 

Question: Does anyone else manually track QC and if so how do you keep track of shifts/trends? Are you making a graph in Excel and looking for shifts or trends that way? We are only running the Creat cartridge and the Chem-8 cartridge. We have my first DOH Lab inspection coming up and one of the questions they sent forward is "What systems are used to evaluate shifts and trends?" - Currently the answer is "My eyeballs and rough averaging" and I don't think that will cut it.

The staff here used to manually track the istat QC and it was a nightmare! They had EP Evaluator that would allow you to input your data and create reports. I'm surprised Orchard doesn't allow you to track. 


MANUAL QUALITY CONTROL DOCUMENTATION


For analyzers or testing that do not have on-board compilation of quality control data, either a log will be kept to document quality control values, or they may be placed on the worksheets, along with any tapes or reports from the analyzer to show testing of quality control material. Review of these should also be performed monthly and documented.
