SO2 from RapidPoints used to calculate SV02

Do any of you have this happen in your POC areas?  Below is the process.

So our process for obtaining Svo2 readings from our monitor is to:

  1. Draw blood from a swan-ganz catheter in the pulmonary artery to obtain blood that (in theory) should be the least oxygenated blood in the body.
  2. Respiratory therapy then runs a blood gas off this blood called a "mixed venous" gas.
  3. The nurse takes the number off the gas So2 or o2 sat (depending on if the gas is run with out without co-ox) and enters it into the continuous cardiac monitor with the hematocrit obtained from the most recent either lab or istat.
  4. The monitor gives a continuous svo2 reading.
