Hello Everyone,
I am doing my 6-month method comparison for the ABl90 Flex plus and iSTAT and I have noticed a bias between the pO2 results on these 2 instruments. CLIA target value is +/-3 SD. I have seen some results of more than 3 SD. What does your facility do when you see a bias between a comparable instrument? Thank you! Appreciate your insights.

The +/- 3 SD thing has always confused me. How do you come up with a standard deviation when you are only comparing 2 values to each other?
Debra Stark, the best place to look is a recent CAP or API survey. They have calculated the SD for you for each analyte for the 5 specimens in the peer group. I look for one with a value close to the one I used for my method comp, then take that peer group SD and multiply it by 3 to get the approximate +/- 3 SD's. Its faster than doing the math :)
