Non-Interfaced POC

Hi all. My IT department recently gave me a new PC in my office (Yay!). However, some of my POC programs don't seem to be compatible with the new Windows 10.

Does anyone here still use software on your PC to download results from Hemochron or Avoximeter? I don't have either of these instruments interfaced. I download the results at the end of each month using report maker and OxyReview_Beta 1. Has anyone run into issues with these programs not playing nice with Windows 10? My local IT doesn't know anything about these systems.

Any input is appreciated!

I ran into the same problems when I got a new 10 pc in December.

If you still have the old pc, you should be able to backup/restore Report Maker to the new pc.  If you no longer have the old one, you should still be able to load RM onto your new pc from a disc- but you'll have to re-build everything (device locations, serials, etc.) from scratch.

I was told by IL that OxyReview is not being supported for 10 (you should contact IL to see if you’re told the same).  I’m temporarily using Oxy on another 7 within our dept. and we are planning to connect our Avox to TelCor QML later in 2021.  If I lose access to the 7 before it’s connected to QML, I plan to just print all results.

Hi Ruth,
I recently had the same issue with Windows 10. My IT was able to set up the program OxyReview Beta to run in compatability mode and it works.  If you right click the OxyReview icon, there's an option to troubleshoot compatability.  ReportMaker and Configuration manager for Hemochron worked on my computer when Windows 10 was uploaded.  You may be able to try running those in compatability mode also if they aren't working for you.  Good luck!

Hi Ruth,
If you exhaust the above potential solutions, is it possible that your IT dept. would be open to giving you a laptop with the same operating system you have been using? Perhaps tied to that is device rental so I understand that's another barrier.

Some of us long timers/old timers working with instruments that had data management yet were 'not connected' used a separate device from our work/office PC (I know, shocking! predating middleware (gasp!)). Actually as I recall, the vendor provided the device/laptop to me to manually download/upload. I didn't have your challenge related to working with hospital IT though and I realize those wild west days are over for most institutions. However, it may be possible to find a sympathetic IT tech willing to step out of their box enough to accept the challenge and help you get creative.

Just a thought. Good Luck.

I will soon be getting windows ten on the laptop I use the Hemochron program manager on and in preparation I contacted IL about support. They gave this response about using the software with windows ten:

  • It’s important that the program is installed with full Admin privileges (with your local IT’s assistance is suggested.)
  • Before opening the application for the first time, the install-admin should log out then have the end user log in to open program for the first time (this ensures proper folder routing.)
  • Antivirus programs can limit CM’s ability to function – be sure to allow access to CM.
  • Recent change to Sophos Anti-virus for example prevents CM from working until the “exploit mitigation” button is unchecked.
  • If switching to USB from Serial – you will need the proper USB converter cable and proper driver installed for its use (please let us know if you are currently using serial port for connection; we can provide part numbers and installation directions for the USB converter cable if needed.)
  • You will need the CM installation CD  you received with your Hemochron and the workaround directions that are attached to this email to get started. (If you cannot find the installation disk, we can order one to send to you.)

Same here. When we updated to Windows 10, the Avox Oxyreview no longer worked and we were forced to interface to Telcor.  IL does not have an alternative to Oxyreview for Windows 10.  I just finished that project last week. Until the project was completed, I had to retain my old laptop and continue with the corded data pull all to remain compliant with CAP result and QC review standards. Essentially, that is how I got them approved for interfacing with my IT. Must have accreditation compliance. The Hemochron's Configuration Manager did work on the Windows 10.  Contact your IT, they should be able to get your Hemochron issue resolved.

Good Luck!

Thank you everyone for your help! I will be working with my local IT to see if there is a workaround. I am in full support of just keeping a system running windows 7, but IT doesn't seem to love that idea. Who knows, maybe I'll get a couple of new interfaces out of this.
