How are you set up for testing with the EPOC? We are at a major block with our chem 8 panel and the HCT test. We have Poccelerator to Telcor (using a Helix interface) and the Telcor to Sunquest . We want to have the ability to order 1. Hct only 2. Hct and Chem8 or 3. Chem8 only. This seems to be a huge problem. EPOC can turn off the HCT but then we can't get it at all. We can deselect the HCT for the EMP button and get the
Chem8 or latest maybe just do a CHEM8 always getting a HCT because if the user doesn't deselect the HCT it will not cross into sunquest. What does everyone else do? If you run the Chem8panel with the HCT always then what about billing? What if the doctor doesn't want a HCT with each Chem8? Help we have been struggling with this for three weeks.

I use the EPIC at Denver Health for my respiratory therapists and OR. My setup uses the EPOC EDM internet based application that flows the patient results into QML (Telcor) and onto EPIC. I have separate builds for each analyte outside of the gases. So ABG, VBG, Mixed, Capillary gases the Na, K, Cl, Creat etc are all charted separately so the operator and pick and choose which analyte to run and each one has a separate billing code. I can also limit testing based on location, RT has gases, Lac and H&H where OR has access to all analytes. RT has a "EPOC ABG/VBG/Mixed" RT order and from that order they know to draw and run a blood gas. I have it built in EPIC that the order set can also tell them if they want to add-on an H&H or Lactate.
You can have the HCT deselected in the EPOC device and require the operator to check the box if they want that test. This is what we are doing.
