TEG6s: All four cartridges and their indications for use approved by FDA

Please share what your institution is doing? All cartridges, some cartridges, all patients or limited to indication, How did you interpret the package inserts? What about the first slide in College of TEG where we are documented at "acknowledging" the FDA indications?

One of our hospitals is going to implement the TEG6s testing by Haemonetics in our POC Surgery suite and in our main laboratory Blood Bank. The idea is that heart surgeries will have their cases covered at POC by our Perfusion contracted staff and all others will be sent to main laboratory, traumas and other Surgery patients that need testing when Perfusion is not on site.

The  package inserts are very descriptive about indications for use and it seems that platelet mapping is not for the trauma patient. What do you do???

Thank you,

We are currently only using the "Global Homeostasis" cartridge in the CVOR.  The perfusionist runs the test as POC during the case.

We are working on bringing in the PlateletMapping cartridge but this will be exclusively ran in the lab, primarily as a pre-op test for the CVOR procedures.  Note: the specimen must drawn 30 minutes prior to running the test on the sample.  I imagine this would be largely why its not a trauma test.  This test system is not cheap and therefor we want to limit who has these tests performed.

Once the PlateletMapping test is being performed in the lab the "Global Homeostasis" test will also be performed in the lab to be used on those  patients that have left the CVOR.
