Nova StatStrip Gluc Pros and Cons

The sales rep for the Stat Strip Glu is visiting this week.  Are there any questions you wished you had asked before getting their glucose test method system?

And thanks to Joseph Caraway for sending me info on the system!  So appreciated.

I love my Nova Stat Strips.  Customer service is great!  I would ask about connectivity to LIS and/or Middleware (Telcor, RALS ect)  Nova may help you out with paying for the interface.   I believe they are the only Company to have certification on critically ill patients as defined by the FDA.

I wish we had asked about MAC addresses up front.  We weren't expecting the barrier.  MACs are held on the meter's themselves rather than the base units making the meters NOT interchangeable on bases without tripping port security.

Kristyn,  so one meter is assigned to one base for uploading of results?

I can put a dock anyway there is a network port and a plug for power.  I just plug it in and it works.  I can dock any meter on any dock.  It must depend on how your network is set up.  Mine is really easy to move dock and meters.  Others may be different.   We use the meters wirelessly

Our meters are assigned to locations in RALS but are set in the individual meters so if we want to move a meter to a different location, we have to change the location in the meter.  But we can then dock it anywhere.  You're at a VA hospital so probably don't have a NICU, we had a problem with the low end of glucose having a negative bias.

We have used NOVA for several years, and can dock any meter at any base.  IP to RALS lives in the meter, and they are very easy to move around, plug and play  once the meter is set up.  NOVA is also the only meter approved for critically ill patients.  We use the NOVA Express meter for our ambulatory sites, it uses the same strip as the hospital meter making it easy to only have 1 type of strip in the system

WE had NOVA meters since 2009.  W got our 2nd generation in 2019. They can be moved around.  They download by WiFi but also have the docks wired since some areas are WiFi dead zones. We were glad we have them because they are approved for critically ill patients. The doctors and nurses still request for venipuncture to confirm  if they feel the fingerstick result is not the best.  The  users love the test strip ejector. It is not required to compare results between Gluc POC and main lab but we still take the values off the database every 6 -months.  The  results compared very well. 99.8 %. The  NOVA Tech support is very helpful. We have ours connected to Telcor.  They are very helpful, smart  and kind too.

Hi Pet,  that is good to hear that you all like them.  And wow!  What a great comparison.  The Vendor will be doing a comparison study between the PXP, Nova and Lab. Hope my results are as good as yours. Thank you.

Does anyone else compare the Nova glucose meter to their whole blood blood gas analyzers?  The Nova tech that performed our comparison said he's never heard of that.  We do it to compare whole blood to whole blood instead of whole blood to plasma.

We were a former Roche Inform/Inform II user and made the switch to Nova StatStrip in 2016.  It is the best decision we could have made.  Ease of use, accuracy and customer service are all A+.  Don't be afraid to play hardball on contract pricing.
