Good afternoon. I was accepted to take the certification exam in May, and was wondering if anyone who has taken it before has any tricks or tips for studying? Also, is the book they suggest worth buying? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Megan, Good Luck!  I do not have any advice as I have been holding off and wanting to do this too.  Hoping to hear advice from some others.

Good Luck!  I do not have any advice, as I didn't know there was such a test.  What are the benefits of taking the test and becoming certified?

I was in the first group of test takers. I ran a small study group using an online meeting platform. We used the study guide provided and the materials suggested. We also used our collective experience.  Some of the study group participants had decades of experience to share. BONUS!!! The study materials suggested were all beneficial. I really liked the book by Luppa and was less excited about Tietz. All of the other materials are free, accessed online and found to be very usefull.

I found my study group by asking others to join me right here on the POCT Listserv. We broke up the sections and ran weekly for around 6 weeks. All participants were to study up and each section assigned and be ready to discuss at our meetings. I've made some lifelong friends that I can ask professional and POC items with.

What we walked away from with this board certification? Some walked away with new knowledge. I have used my collective learnings more times than I can count. Some walked away with the understanding that they are on the right side of the POC testing world.  It will be different for all who take it.

Good Luck!

Erika, Thank you so much for your insight! Do you happen to know of anywhere to read the journals for free? I haven't been able to find a good spot to read them. Thanks again!

I used my hospital system's access within their library.

I wish I had found this post a while ago! I just took the test last week. I really got a lot out of the AACC POC course, although I was surprised that some of the things that were taught in the course were not even mentioned on the test, and other things on the test really took me by surprise - they seemed to come out of left field. Anyway- through the AACC course I found this site and I am really enjoying the discussion board! It's nice to have someone else to reach out to who is "in the same boat"!

I am planning to take the certification challenge in 2022.  I will definitely try to find a study group.
