iStat newbie

Hello all!
We just recently purchased the iSTAT for our facility. I have just received the analyzers and no literature yet. Anyone have a basic policy and/or sample IQCP that I could see to get myself started on a written procedure? Do you know if I will receive the user manual later? Just trying to get a headstart before we begin validation.
We will be doing ACT-k testing in Cath Lab and Creatinine in Radiology. Any help is appreciated!

Good morning!!!  You can go online to their website to download their user manual/instruction manuals as well as their IQCP. We have had ours for a while, so I do not know if they send them out still or not.  Creatinine is still considered waived and won't necessarily need an IQCP, unless you are using them as a Moderate complex.  They also have copies of the validation procedures there.

Thank you Jillian! I hadn't heard from the company so I did not know. I was able to convince Radiology to use creatinine as waived so YESSSSS!! for me! LOL But I will still need to do the IQCP for ACT testing.

Have you been approved yet to access the site?  It can sometimes take up to a week to have your log on approved...

I just went on to create my account. It says 1-2 days I should hear back. Thanks again!

Ashlee,
Creatinine is waived only if you draw your sample in a green top tube ( Li Hep ).
Fingerstick or  samples drawn in a syringe will make it moderate complex.  So specify that in your procedure under Specimen requirement to make it a waived test. .

You can draw blood  in a green top tube and use a transfer pipet or use Safe Evac to inoculate your cartridge.

Contact your iSTAT to find your sales rep and tech rep. on avialable references on the APOC website.  They did have a sample IQCP.  You will need an IQCP for ACT K.  We do ACT K  here.  Please email me if you would like more information on our start up process.  Are you CAP or TJC?

Good morning Ashlee, When using the i-STAT for Creatinine testing keep in mind that the drug Hydroxyurea is a known interferent and will cause erroneous high Creatinine values. Our radiology department asks each patient prior to testing to verify the patient does not take this medication.
