CoaguChek XS Pro

Hello,

Just wondering how other facilities using the CoaguChek XS Pro validate their meters that are currently in use. Do you run patient comparisons against the lab analyzers?  Every six months? Or only when a new meter is placed into use? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to clarify our procedures.

Thanks,
Erica

Hi Erica!
At Harbor, we do handheld-to-analyzer comparisons every six months. We use the critical results that are drawn for analyzer comparison and some ‘normal’ patients are gracious enough to get drawn too so our graphs have plenty of points. Happy to help! Maggie @ Harbor

Hello Erica. We also compare Coaguchek to the lab analyzers when validating a new meter and every 6 months thereafter.

We do an electronic chart review to compare CoaguChek results to lab results every 6 months.  We can usually find a range of values.  This process checks the method as a whole; we do not check each analyzer.

Thank you all for your responses. We have been drawing patients from our Coumadin Clinic after their finger stick and then sending the tubes to the lab for comparisons every six months. I never thought to check the critical results that are sent to the lab. This could save us from drawing so many AC patients. Electronic chart review sounds good too. Thanks again!

We look for at least 3 results that span the reportable range.

Hello
Are you all using the meter as a waived test?  I was under the notion that waived testing only needs to follow the manufacturer's directions.  CAP doesn't require 6 month method comparisons for waived testing.  Is daily/weekly liquid QC being performed and do you subscribe to a whole blood INR survey?
We have these analyzers in various departments and our Coag Clinics...I'm concerned that I've missed something!
Thank you
