small CBC analyzer

 I've used Beckman Coulter AcTDiff in the past and it worked well for fast TAT for a mostly 'normal' patient population (used in a primary care location).

We have the Sysmex pocHi 100 in one of our sites - only a 3 part diff. This MUST have lab overview. There is 'moderate' amounts of lab requirement involved - calibration verification every 6 mos, maintenance every couple weeks. There is the Sysmex XN-L 430 that does CBC and full 6 part diff, much much less maintenance, and calibration is managed by Sysmex remotely or by their field service reps. QC is online in real time and able to be monitored. This in my opinion is preferable to the pochi. Inquiries to your regulating body to allow it as POC would be good. There is also (just health canada approved class iII) the Slight Diagnostics OLO cartridge-based CBC and 5 part diff - no calibration, no reagents, worth looking at.

There is also a device similar to the OLO, from Pixcell, called Hemosense. It actually has less hands-on steps than the OLO. They both look to be FDA-approved mod complexity. We are looking at these 2 for an oncology site that wants to do CBC/Diff. They have very little room for a Sysmex, and both these devices are more POCT-friendly. I'm not sure about the connectivity for the 2 devices. One thing to consider is what your patient population will be and what patient types the devices are approved for.
