Abbott Binax NOW Covid cards

We are using the BinaxNOW cards for our employee testing, but have noticed there is not enough reagent to complete the box of cards (40). The package inserts  states that 10mL bottle of extraction fluid is included. Well the bottle says 7.5mL on the side and there is not enough to get through the kit. I don't think 10mL would be enough either. Each card requires 6 drops (QC is 8 drops) and everyone knows there are "differences" in drops from a bottle between different staff.  Been on hold with Abbott forever and getting no where, and was wondering if anyone else has this issue.  Hate to waste cards (that we paid for) due to lack of fluid!!!
Thanks
Kim

Hi Kim
We don't have this happen to often and are using Binax at 3 different sites. Rarely we waste one or two cards. I believe it may have to do with how the bottle is being held. We train staff to drop from vertical so there is less drag on the drop. If your staff are dropping with the bottle lying horizontal that may be enough to short you. Hope this helps! Also, Abbott Tech support will send you replacement bottles so worth the wait on hold!

Thanks Pamela! But have your bottles been 10mL (as package insert says they are) or 7.5mL bottles. Curious as to why they are packing small bottles that they know will not be enough!!!

We have been getting the 7.5 mL bottles.

Thanks for the advice!! Will call the Abbott Grinch next week!!

This got my POC OCD going so I had to find out! I counted out drops into a tube and there were 260. There is enough in each bottle plus a few drops left over!

Pamela--I so wanted to be able to "count" drops but didn't have any reagent to play with!! Well, I called Abbott 12/28 and held on line for 1.5 hours !! Finally got through to place an order for reagent, and she called back last night with a lot number question (after I had left) Today I am sitting here at 2 hours 50 minutes on hold!!!!!!! She could have given me her direct line or email!! Abbott needs to answer the phones!!! I have found them to be very unresponsive across numerous departments/instruments and custom service stinke

Abbott is not high on my list for great customer service either but that is way too long to keep anyone on hold! They may be suffering from lack of staffing though, like the rest of us. Here is the email address I have been using to contact them about covid kits and supplies. It take awhile to get a response back from here as well. COVIDService@abbott.com
