Nova StatStrip glucose meter package insert question

Hi.
We are in the beginning process of replacing our current POCT glucose meters in our hospitals with the Nova StatStrip. The information in the two red boxes in the package insert below is giving us some concern. We are getting push back on running controls after an unexpected, very high, or very low result. I am wondering how other point of care coordinators are handling this situation. Any help you could give us would be very appreciated.

We use the Nova StatStrip, formerly Roche.  We state that if there ever is a LO or HI result to always collect a Main Laboratory sample to obtain a treatable result, not to repeat on the glucometer.   For the "If the test result is higher or lower than expected, run a control solution test", we have a blanked statement that if staff are questioning a result, they should always collect a Main Laboratory sample to obtain a treatable result.

We have pretty much the same policies as Max.  Follow up < or > results with a lab draw and perform QC if you question the results for any reason.

Our policy is if we get a Hi or Lo result, we repeat the test on the glucometer. If the test result is still Hi or Lo, we run a STAT Lab Glucose. "If the result is higher or lower than expected, run a control solution test" - we interpret this as if you do not believe the results match the patient symptoms. Not specifically related to when we get a Hi or Lo result. If there is any question of the result, run the QC, and draw a glucose for lab.

We do the same: rerun, if the result is the same specimen is sent to the hospital lab for glucose if critical and provider requires it. If it is a fingerstick, then venous blood is drawn and tested. Our Critical result procedure also requires a recheck, redraw, or rerun of controls if questioning results. That way the tech is reassured that their technique is good, and if controls are goo on rerun, the analyzer and strips are good too.
We do have the advantage of also having istats in some of our clinics and can recheck/ rerun test with istat cartridge.

We do the same:
Critical Glucose Value Actions
Adult Patients with results less than 50mg/dL or greater than 400mg/dL.
-          Action: Result less than 50 mg/dL- Repeat testing
* If the repeat result is within 10mg/dl of the first result, it may be used for patient treatment.
* If the repeat result is not within 10mg/dL of the first result, send confirmation to the Main Laboratory.
-          Action: Results greater than 400 mg/dL- Repeat testing
* If the repeat result is within 50 mg/dL of the first result, the result may be used for patient treatment.
* If the repeat result is not within 50 mg/dL of the first result, send a confirmation to the Main Laboratory.

Critical Value Protocol
-          All critical values must be repeated using a fresh sample from a new stick, unless it is consistent with patient’s previous result. If repeat results are inconsistent, send a specimen to the laboratory for verification.
-          Actions taken must be documented in the meter. Report to caregiver or provider, and follow his/her recommendations.
