Nova Net vs RALS

We have the NOVA StatStrip meters and recently switched to NOVA Net.  RALS is our middleware as well.  I basically had no training in NOVA Net and most information and training was done over the phone.  But, the only time I use NOVA Net is when I get new consumables for NOVA.  All NOVA StatStrips and NOVA controls must be entered into RALS and NOVA Net! We also use the NOVA for manual test entry for urine pregnancy testing and Fecal Occult Blood.  So those card/cartridge and Developer lot numbers have to be entered into both as well.  Also, when a NOVA device is removed from RALS that is damaged and to be replaced, you will need to remove it from NOVA Net as well. So those are the only times I use NOVA Net.  I hope this helps!

We have RALS and did not get NovaNet.  It sounded like too much double work!

We have RALS and use the combination (RALS/NovaNet) as described above.  I'm curious how one can use RALS without NovaNet?  We do need to enter consumables through NovaNet first.  It would be nice to not need NovaNet, but I didn't think that was an option?

Thanks for all of your input. From what I am gathering from you and from both RALS and NOVA is that I will have to use NovaNet for some functions, but I can continue to use RALS for the functions that I am familiar with. It does sound like a little of unavoidable double-work unfortunately,

RALS can support all of your needs without NovaNet as RALS has been supporting Nova and other devices for years. However, Nova states to update device firmware, you must have NovaNet. I can tell you there are quite a number of POCCs that refuse NovaNet, due to the double work mentioned. NovaNet will be implemented or not, based on your Nova contract. 

Hi all!  I found this thread, as our network is considering switching to NOVA meters and we currently use RALS.  Is there an option to use the NOVA meters without NOVA NET (and only go directly to RALS)?  How do the instruments get updates then?  Thank you!
