Abbott ID Now Covid Testing/ QML Interface

We are looking at bringing Abbott ID Now Covid testing in-house.  We will be interfacing via Telcor/QML with Meditech.  For those of you that are using Abbott ID Now, how do you handle the required HHS AOE queries (i.e. First test?, Symptoms?, ICU?, HCW?, Hospitalized?).  Since the device/QML is sending an unsolicited result to Meditech, are your reporting those required AOE questions?

Thank you,

Using the devices at POC, we have not been able to address the AOE questions at all. It's just not possible with the unsolicited process. It would be a tedious manual process, if we could even access all the information needed, which is questionable.

We use the ID NOW and interface unsolicited using the accn. no. through Telcor.  The questions are answered at the time the order is placed (we created dropdowns for each question so it goes fast), then all flow through Telcor and into the chart.  I would have to look for for sure but if there is no onset date, I think staff/providers enter NA or none depending on the best fit.

We had it set up like Cindy.  The questions were answered when the order was placed in EPIC.  We called it the "ordering wizard" and since we had multiple COVID testing options (POC, rapid, high throughput) we also asked questions (beyond the HHS) to help direct the provider to the most appropriate order.  Once the appropriate order fired, then we just proceeded with testing as normal, regardless of whether it was POC through telcor or main lab through DI.  Mary

@Cindy Sorensen - When you say "the questions are answered at the time the order is placed", where are you referring to?  Within the testing device or within your LIS?  Currently, everything we have flowing from QML to Meditech creates the order in the LIS and verifies the result, without intervention.

Thank you,
Carol Brown

Hi Carol,
The provider or RN answers them in the LIS when they place the order.  They are required entries so the order will not complete w/out them answering them.  Because they are unsolicited, the order is placed first (we use the accession no. for Pt ID), unlike solicited, where everything flows in the background with the middleware.
