pCO2 correction on iSTAT CG8+

Has anyone heard of pCO2 corrections based on pO2 values, using the iSTAT CG8+ cartridge?  Apparently, some users have been told that if your pO2 is in the 200-300mmHg range, to subtract 1.5 mmHg from the pCO2.  If in the 300-400 range, subtract 3, and if in the 400-500 range, subtract 5.  Trying to determine if maybe this is a barometric pressure issue.

Thank you,

Back in 2020, Abbott sent out a product information regarding pO2 sensitivity. Look at the IFU for cartridges testing blood gases under "Other Factors Affecting Results."
In patient samples where the PO2 is > 100 mmHg above the normal range (80- 105 mmHg), an increase in PCO2 of approximately 1.5 mmHg (with a range of 0.9 to 2.0 mmHg) may be observed for every 100 mmHg increase in PO2. For example, if an oxygenated patient has a measured PO2 of 200 mmHg, and a normal PO2 is 100 mmHg, the impact to the PCO2 result may be increased by approximately 1.5 mmHg

I referenced the CG8+ cartridge IFU. (https://www.globalpointofcare.abbott/content/dam/poc/apoc/support/i-stat-1/cti-ifu/english-us/ifu/765792-00C.pdf) There is nothing in there that states to manually correct results...eekes.

In the section, "Other factors affecting results", there is this:

We have a statement in our procedure regarding this. It pertains to ECMO and cardiopulmonary bypass when the patient is highly oxygenated. We did receive notice about this late 2020.

Was the notification in an email?  Could someone send me the notice?  Thanks!

I found it! Hopefully it will open for you.

Debbie

BTW, a notification was actually mailed to Risk Management at our hospital. There was no email directly from Abbott.

Thank you to everyone who replied.  I did see we had addressed the issue back in 2020, but had forgotten about it.  For anyone who might need the Product Information, the Abbott notice is attached.  Thanks again.
