POC lactates

Our sepsis committee is requesting that we look at POC testing for lactates. Are there any options other than the Nova StatSensor?
I'd appreciate any feedback on the Nova lactates.

We use the ABL90 and we used the iSTAT before that. Liz
You could also use Abbott i-STAT, they have a cartridge that does blood gas and lactate (CCG4+) and you could do test select. The Siemens Epoc also does lactate, though their test card also does all the other analytes. Most blood gas devices (GEM, RapidPoint, ABL) also can do lactate. As for a device that only does lactate, the only one I'm aware of is the Nova device. We were using it for a while, but only for rule-outs in the ED, then following with i-STAT as the accuracy at higher levels wasn't sufficient for our purposes.
We use the Siemens EPOC BGEM cards and this has a POC lactate. Respiratory therapy has the Rapidpoint 500e, which also does a POC Lactate. The correlations are great. My only complaint is the EPOC requires a little patience and technical skill to add the sample. Easy for techs, but a little more difficult for our nurses. Some have great technique and others - not so much. Once they get the hang of it, it's a great device.
We utilize both the ISTAT CG4+ cartridge and the Nova Lactate (NICU only). We had to adapt a bit to meet the needs of our NICU during the cartridge challenges a couple of years ago. The Nova Lactate does work well. You have a result in 13 seconds. Nova Biomedical worked with us to bring the meter into use. The one real concern is that because it looks like a fingerstick instrument we have to emphasize that only heparinized venous or arterial blood can be utilized.
We use the CG4+ cartridge for i-STAT
We use the EPOC in the NICU as istat does not have FDA clearance for capillary collections.
We do not permitted capillary collection here for lactate testing. This is the way we explain it: Lactates sent to the lab cannot be collected using a tourniquet. Squeezing a heel (or finger) is like using a human tourniquet. This elevates the lactate level.
