Move away from Fern

Aloha POC ohana!

It was so great to see a lot of you at AACC!   I am looking for sites that have moved away from Ferning in lieu of ROM plus or Amnisure.  Could you please share:

1.  How you were able to to convince providers to move away from Ferning?
2. Impact on the clinical care for PPROM patients?

Mahalo,
Shana

Hello Dear Dancing Queen!!!
It was amazing to meet you at AACC and I can't wait to see you again, hopefully soon!

As far as Fern Testing, we have not moved away from this testing in lieu of any other assay/test. I can't help with your question and really just wanted to stop by and say "Hello! Miss your face!"

Take good care,
Jeanne

I would love to information on this as well. I was unable to convince the providers to move away from using the Fern test. I was told it was the "gold standard".

We have both the Amnisure and Fern Test. We also can't convince them from moving away from the Fern test completely. I did finally have the Fern test built as a lab test that must be resulted by the provider when performed, but I get very little compliance on that. I ran a report for the current year which showed 7 Fern tests performed by providers. When I mentioned this to the OB folks, they laughed and said they are doing many more than that. So frustrating. Following for any advice as well!

We are using ROM Plus. Our physicians did not want to comply with competency/proficiency regulations so it was we were able to convince them fairly easy in removing Fern testing. Thankfully our providers are willing to work with me when it comes down to regulatory compliance. We do offer Fern testing as a laboratory test if they feel it is really needed but it is performed and resulted by lab staff.
