Barcode scanning issues with multiple POC devices

Hi!
I know I've posted about this before, but I need to pull in some data for a ticket that I am sending to my IT team and, hopefully, EPIC.

If you are experiencing barcode scanning where the actual number gets transposed from the armband to the device AND/OR the number gets translated as a SYMBOL, would you mind sending me an email with the following details?:
  • Version of EPIC
  • Approx when it started happening and what version you were on when it started
  • Any other details that might be helpful....ours started right after an EPIC upgrade in Oct 2018.

Thank you SO much for your help.  I need to get to the bottom of this!!  For anyone that reaches out, I would be happy to keep you posted on outcomes.

We have seen this issue when scanning with our Sofia2 devices interfacing through Telcor QML. Both numbers being transposed and translated to symbols as you mentioned. Our current version is May 2022 and we were previously on a November 2021 version. Our team has not been able to resolve the issue yet so I'll be interested to hear the outcome!

I had seen this issue when scanning with our Infor ll devices interfacing through RALS to SunQuest. Both numbers being transposed, or substituted with a different number and translated to symbols. Our current version is now Cerner. Our team was not been able to resolve the issue. Any time it happened I would document is.  Since changing to Cerner and NOVA meters I have not seen the problem in 3 years.

Gina- that is valuable input as I have been convinced this is an EPIC issue.  You are not using EPIC at all, correct?

Mary, What Middleware do you have? (i.e. Telcor, RALS, etc.)

That is correct.  However, I understand it maybe in our future.  I have Nova glucose meters with RALS mid-ware and Cerner LIS to Cerner HIS.  We have our own special bucket full of head banging issues with Cerner.
It was a very insidious issue because it was random.  If you want to "talk it out."   My number is 518-612-2090  martinellig@ellismedicine.org

We have seen random scanning issues like you describe.  We were able to track it to the printer where the wristband was made.  Cleaning the printer solved the problem.

Hi Mistie- We have Telcor as our Middleware.
Terry, all our printers are at the highest DPI settings and the issue occurs at 12 hospitals and have been found in each department. :(  But thank you!
