Hi everyone,
I have a clinic that is under the labs Joint Commission. They are using the Coagucheck XS plus system but are not running external controls monthly. How does everyone else handle it for this machine?
The facility would prefer not to run external controls. We are only Joint Commission not CAP. Anyone else using it that is Joint Commission?

We have a coumadin clinic and rural health clinics that uses the Coaguchek XS Plus. We also are under TJC. We have been using the Coaguchek System for several years and have never performed external quality controls. The device performs an internal quality control with every sample. If the internal controls fails, you will not receive a result. If the device was not waived, then we would need to perform external QC.
We looked into purchasing QC in the past, however, the qc material was very unstable and required reconstitution. With nurses and MAs performing the task, we decided not to go that route.
I pulled the PI. The PI states, "The CoaguChek XS System has quality control functions integrated into the meter and test strips, so you do not have to run quality control tests with tliquid quality controls. The meter automatically runs its own quality control test as part of every blood test."
Hope this helps.
Have a great day!
