Blood gases on i-STAT

We are adding the CG4+ cartridge to our i-STATs in the ED.  We use the ABL90s elsewhere in our facility and have built many O2 and ventilator settings on the analyzer.  Staff like the ease of documenting vent settings and running test at the same time.  Is this possible with i-STAT?

I called Tech Support and they recommended we purchase STATNotes.  How do you handle this?

Thanks,

Hi Cindy,

I don't think that you can do this from the meter itself. STATNotes may be software they offer but I'm not sure what it involves. From our experience with the CG4 in the ER they barely used it since ours uses the respiratory analyzer for VBG/ABG and the cartridges kept expiring until they finally pulled it from the ER.

I use i-Stat with the CG4 and statnotes.  You can customize your fields in statnotes to enter vent settings.  My respiratory therapist like this ability.  Once it is set up small changes are easy and I do most of them myself.  All the setting are put into the meter.

Thanks everyone, you have been a big help!

Statnotes is definitely worth it… I am not sure of the cost, we got it for free when we switched all blood gases to the istat from a table top instrument. I am attaching our checklist so you can see all the items we built into statnotes (on the 3rd page)… We gave respiratory therapy the ability to reject results as well….
Our gases are now done on the ABL90 and since the fields cannot be made mandatory there is very little compliance. Liz

Thanks everyone, sounds like STATNotes is the way to go.  Elizabeth, thanks for the checklist!  Our RT staff loves documenting on the 90s.  If you want to talk off line, call when you have time.  314-205-6100 x5656.
