RSV testing on Adults

RSV for adults is a little tricky.  The only CLIA waived options, I'm aware of based on package inserts are the ID NOW (under 18, or, over 60), and the Cepheid Gene Xper Xpress, which  (doesn't indicate age, says "individuals suspected of respiratory viral infection".

I sold RSV testing for Abbott for many years.  I was trained to go to the pediatric wards and hospitals as this was a neonate disease, mostly a result of underdeveloped lungs at birth.  I do not know of any company that has adults in their clinical trial data submission.  I would think this cohort would be necessary to include adults in the ID claim/wording.

the Sofia 2, the RSV kit for kids under 19, and adults over 60 is waived, for other adults its moderate complex.

Per the package insert for the RSV kit it is waived for under 7 and moderate for 7-18. The Quickvue kit can be used on 18 and younger.
Does your package insert say something different?
