Problem with AVOX level 1 QC

Hi all,
I've been having trouble for months now regarding the low level one Avox controls. I use the Avox-4 CO-Oximeter controls from Werfen Instrumentation Laboratory recommended by the manufacturer.

My level one control has conistantly been failing on the low end of the acceptable range for about 4 months now. This happens on multiple lots of QC, cuvettes and operators and happens on both of my Avox devices. I've had both AVOX devices services by Biomed and one by Werfen.

All other parameters are fine. Controls level two and three pass every time, daily optical filter controls, and patient method comparisons to the ABL800. I'm just waiting on calibration verification since I haven't run these in six months.

Is anyone else having difficulty with the AVOX low level control? Any tips on getting these to work? I've been working with Werfen and they ask if I can establish my own QC range which I've never done before.

Thanks,
Jake

Jake,
I use the RNA Medical Avoximeter QC - CC527 Level 1 and Level 3.  We have been using this with our Avoximeters for over a year with no issues.  I prefer these controls because they can be stored at room temperature for 12 months which is helpful for our Cath Lab due to limited refrigerator space.

We also use the RNA Medical CC527 levels 1 and 3 QC. We've been using them since 2014 with no issues. You may want to give those a try.

I had the same problem with my AVOX Level 1 QC.  It was barely outside the lower end of the range.  I talked to Werfin and they told me to try a different type of QC.  They told me to switch to bovine based QC material rather than dye based material.  RNA CC 527 is dye based and what we were having problems with.  I haven't had problems with QC since the switch.

Jake,
I use the same QC , AVOX-4, and have had issues with Level One Lot # N0823512. It has been running low.
We established a new mean and changed our reference range. We used the values obtained for level one from the day we started using this lot #....about 3 and 1/2 months to create new values.
Good Luck,
Pam

Hi Jake,
I am the Product Manager for Eurotrol.  We offer CueSee CO-OX controls in either 3 level or 5 level kit.  They are not dye-based and the feedback we have received from customers using with Avox analyzers has been very positive regarding the reproducibility, ease of use and overall performance.  If you would like more information reach out to us at SupportUS@eurotrol.com or at 502-501-1180 Option '1'.
Thank you,
Tessa Shaw

Thank you all so much for the replies! I've ordered RNA medical QC so I will try this first and if it doesn't work I'll try the Eurotrol. I really appreciate the help!
