Expiration Dates on Kits/Supplies different

I have a question. We have a Strep Kit with one expiration date on the outside of the kit and the actual cartridge used for the test has a different expiration date. Any idea why?
I asked the site to let me know the expiration dates of al the supplies in the kit to see if one of them has the same date as the kit. Does the manufacture just default to the earliest date? ( cartridge, reagent and control swabs)?
